AUM the band at Le Rock, Bangalore
JJune 1st 2007
The eve of the Aerosmith show in B’lore.A little known band managed to get a gig in a swank pub in B’lore due to the efforts of makingWaves. Just a week of publicity in the pub, nothing else.No stage, no lights, no smoke, no chordless mic. Just a tiny corner of the pub and the pub’s PA system.
But lemme tell u, the guys rocked the place!
Le Rock is a pub on Resthouse road, just off Brigade Road and parallel to Church Street. For more info on Le Rock and pictures of the pub, please see the Rock Pub review elsewhere on this site. A swank new joint which plays only rock music normally and doesn’t normally host live acts.Whether it was coz they had a live act, or whether it was coz it was a pub off Brigades…. I dunno, but the place was packed.
The band started off with the old staple Sultans of Swing. Executed it to perfection. The guitar playing was just right. No frills. The next song was Yellow by Coldplay. They then did Time by Floyd. Want to break Free by Queen was executed beautifully despite the band being only a 4 piece band with no rhythm guitar n keyboards. Next came Love me two times by Doors. Clocks by Coldplay was up next. A few people asked for the staple Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams and the band was only too happy to let it rip. Aeroplane by RHCP was next. It was rocking! Then came the one and only original of the gig, Ocean of Hypes.
This one was a power ballad kind of song, very well done.As atribute to the band playing in the city the next day they did Big 10” by Aerosmith next. Pride by U2 was the next song and this one too did not fail to impress. Take a look around, the Limp Bizkit song was covered note perfect. The band wound up with another staple, Highway Star by DeepPurple.
If somebody in the audience was asked what impressed them the most, I am sure the answer would be “the showmanship of the front man”! In that tiny space, with a mic on a wire, the guy pranced around and even made an amazing leap off the small staircase leading to the mezzanine. Amazing showmanship! But credit should not be taken away from the guitars, both lead n bass and the drummer who all did an excellent show that day. But they should be forewarned that with a showman like this up front, all the people will talk about him only and that should never be a cause of concern.
Heads bobbed, beer was quaffed in bulk and people had a rocking good time. So good, that the band has been invited to play there again on July 20th and also at a sister concern, the Legends of Rock at Koramangala on 19th July!
Appended below please find a few comments by people who were there on that day. These were posted on the band’s community page on Orkut.

1. Aum at Le Rock!
Le Rock, June 1st, 8.30 pm, 2 pitchers, couple of friends, and AUM THE BAND!!!
Believe me guys, ive been to almost All the shows in and around Bangalore, but ive never seen a band so tight, so simple, so professional and so dedicated!
Kicking off with Sultans of Swing, that fender strat didn’t miss a single note, of course, Preeth is the God of guitar, and it is expected of him to blow us away!! Balu, on the bass, just close your eyes and get into the groove as he starts slappin’ and sliding. Amazing!
Shibu, on a very beautiful Pearl kit, got us all off our seats, on our feet, with those powerful perfectly timed beats! And last but not the least, Manu, his vocals seemed to pierce even the most highly drunk dude’s ears! If you have to learn stage presence, learn it from this guy, as he does it Best!
Unbelievable show, glad I didn’t miss it. Wish you guys good luck and see u at many more shows and international shows too, as you truly deserve to be there.
Classic rock fans, don’t miss their show for anything! Believe me!
Cheers!
Gautham!
2. The better days are yet to come
hi
It was totally unexpected for me to drive up to B'lore to see Aum at the Le Rock. It was a decision taken on the 31st, and we decided to go and see them. Anyway, it proved that it could have been a big miss. It was worth the 8hr long drive....
The band has improved a lot and they are a lot tighter than I saw them last time. Balu has improved a lot... unfortunately the time allotted was not enough for Shibu to show is real caliber. As a band they really won some hearts in B'lore. The pub management told me that they have never seen anything like what they saw!! Manu was in his usual high notes.. musically and physically.. he even leaped off the stairs and landed on the ground during the show. It made a few hearts skip a beat!!! Preeth is preeth and he still plays well.
The original was well appreciated and many asked for a CD. it's a good sign for the band to work more on originals.
I think B'lore music lovers will see The Aum more often from now...
Congrats to The Aum... they did what our older generation could not do!!
The better days are yet to come, that's all I feel about this band.
